Whether it is life, business, professional career or life in general, the element of unpredictability and uncertainty is always there. We as humans do not know what will happen the next moment. We knowingly or unknowingly take risks in our life.

Surprisingly, the moment we are conscious that we have to take certain risks, our psychology becomes the greatest bottleneck that stops us from taking a risk outrightly. It propels us to think about it, consult friends, parents, family or someone mature and senior in that particular arena. What happens next? Doubt, indecisiveness, fear of unknown, fear of failure or loss, these emotions or factors control our intellect and our power to think. Probably this is a natural phenomenon.

I have a firm belief and I practiced it in reality that fortune favors the brave. It is not merely a proverb. It is a reality of life. God almighty has blessed the human beings with many faculties. Human brain is the greatest miracle of this Universe. Human imagination travels so fast and in friction of a moment, it runs millions and millions of miles. Our inner self, thinking capability, our will are our strengths. We actually get the emotion of fear or bravery, it comes from our inner self.

Those who are brave and take calculated risks in their lives, they make efforts and then do not worry about the results. They know that they will get the results that are good for their life. People who after making efforts, doing hard work, showing commitment and perseverance, and still do not believe in the might of fortune or destiny, they end up in utter frustration or despondency. Their minds are not ready to accept any failure which is a part of the whole process of struggle and efforts. People may differ this belief but this is what I have experienced.

This goes true in our professional life. We seek an opportunity, we prepare ourselves for it, put in our best efforts, the result will surely be positive. But sometimes if the result is not as per our expectations, it means that particular things was not good for us. We should have made some mistakes that we could not realize at that particular time.

People taking risks, showing resilience and standing their ground have set a course of action for success. They overcome their fear, think and make right decisions at the right moment, they take calculated risks, and push their limits to achieve their desired goals.

I will just quote few examples of business leaders who made bold strategic moves, faced failures bravely and they ultimately created a great history that will be remembered for many decades to come.

1. Steve Jobs made bold choices. Prime example was his decision to introduce the iPhone in 2007 and it revolutionized the smartphone industry. Apple has become one of the most valuable companies in the world.

2. Elon Musk is a serial entrepreneur. He made many bold choices. Notable amongst those choices was to invest heavily in electric vehicles with Tesla. He also founded SpaceX with the goal of reducing the cost of space exploration, leading to innovations like reusable rockets.

3. Jeff Bezos transformed Amazon from an online bookstore into a global e-commerce giant. He made bold moves, such as expanding into cloud computing with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and investing in original content with Amazon Prime, which helped diversify the company’s revenue streams.

4. Warren Buffett founder of Berkshire Hathaway, is famous for his bold investments in undervalued companies and industries. His acquisition of BNSF Railway, investments in companies like Coca-Cola and Apple were unconventional but later proved to be highly successful.

5. Mark Zuckerberg made a bold decision to expand Facebook’s reach by acquiring Instagram and WhatsApp, which have since become integral parts of the Facebook ecosystem.

6. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group, is a serial entrepreneur. He made bold choices across various industries. His decision to opt for space tourism with Virgin Galactic, his attempts to break world records in ballooning and boating are good examples of his adventurous and bold nature.

7. Reed Hastings made a bold transition from a DVD rental service to a streaming platform with Netflix. It transformed the overall demeanor of Netflix and most people fond of watching movies have no choice but to stick to Netflix.

8. Jack Ma founded Alibaba. His bold moves to transform it into an e-commerce and technology conglomerate is one of the great business feats of the current times. His vision for a digital marketplace connecting Chinese manufacturers with global buyers was a pioneering concept that has reshaped the e-commerce landscape.

9. Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo, led the company to diversify its product portfolio by acquiring companies like Tropicana and Quaker Oats. Her bold strategic moves were instrumental to adapt to changing consumer preferences.

These business leaders demonstrated great examples of bold choices those always come with risks, and not all bold moves lead to success. Effective leadership and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances are vital to manage the risks.

We in our professional life should make brave choices and decisions. It is good to think, consult mentors or leaders, talk to family and consult them but finally make your own decisions. It is how the success will come. Needless to say, that fortune favors the brave.
