Self-Development Strategies For Managers
Manager are said to have no time for their self-development. But, it is equally important for Managers to find ways and meants to focus on their development which will eventually help their teams to learn, grow and contribute more in their work.
It is a reality that Managers are burdened with their performance goals, responsibility of their teams, they are answerable to their bosses and stakeholders.
This pressure keeps them busy round the clock, thinking about their on self-care and development becomes a little more challenging. But, living in this real world, managers have to spare time for their self-development, intellectual and mental health. If a manager or leader is not healthy, active, agile and fit, he or she will not be able to manage and lead their teams effectively.
I will recommend five ways for the managers to follow and apply in their daily life to ensure their self-care and self-development.
- Keep a positive circle of influence: Your professional and personal circle should be educated, value-driven, avid learner and forward looking. Nurture your families in a way that they become your strength in your personal and professional life. Professional network should be well chosen, qualified, progressive and visionary. Your professional circle will help you grow and create a mark of success. If you are surrounded by mediocres, you will surely become one after sometime. But if it is a mix of mediocres and intellectually sound people, a group of nice and visionary people will emerge. Yourself, your life partner and children are the key to your self development as individuals and then as a family. Introduce good practices, values and ethics in the family. Learn from each other every day. This will greatly help you and your family grow well and develop a growth mindset. Always take care of your circle of influence.
- Better networked with your team: Networking with your team is of paramount importance. Keep the team together mentally and intellectually. Adopt a routine every day that helps in mutual learning. Share ideas, articles, blogs and write ups to enrich the learning curve. Maintain daily communication and contact. A periodic training and learning session will not help your team or yourself grow. Regular communication, discussions, finding ways and means to solve the problems will help yourself and your team grow. A team should be developed in a way that you all are together in good and bad times. No blame…
